Ojos de Mar

In the span of a few months I encountered two different men.

One was an englishman who had been living in Venice, Italy, making boats for the past 20 years. I was working in Venice and I would encounter him with the same blue woolen hat nearly covering his eyes at the bar every night. He talked to me about wood and about the good produce on the islands near Venice.

He was seemingly gruff at first, then slowly his softness started to come through. His eyes were the deepest color of dark, murky blue I'd ever seen.

A few months later I was working with a DF (director of photography), much younger and spryer, who was also always wearing a woolen hat. He on the other hand had the brightest, softest blue eyes I had ever seen.

At the moment in life I was into rap, particularly the short, sharp and music-less raps of Loyle Carner.
I started writing raps about life, and this was one of them, dedicated to this duo of blue eyes.

Ojos de Mar

Runny and flexible
Mareada, cayendo, timido.
Viejo joven, sombrio fresco, mareo
Debido al tiempo, silencio.
Será que los años van opacándolo?
Profundo, inundando, a bit darker go
Those splashes and flashes,
Luz in white caps collapsing
The lull of wave naturally to and fro…
Hola!
I know you.
That gleam in your ojos de mar.

Some time later I was at a recording studio for our project micro-short BARE/LY and we threw in a rap recording last minute just for fun.
